U of M is a public university located in Columbia. The school was established in 1839. The university’s School of Journalism offers a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with concentration in areas such as news, radio, magazine and strategic communication.
Course requirements lean heavily on Liberal Arts classes and core Journalism classes including Ethics in Journalism. The Master’s program is designed to provide students with hands on training. This research and managerial based training is provided at the school’s Web based newspaper and weekly city magazine. 2. Northwestern University

Northwestern is one of the top private research schools in the country. The campus is located in Evanston, Illinois and was established in 1851. The Medill School of Journalism offers a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. The school believes writers need to be well rounded individuals. Therefore, a large percentage of the curriculum falls outside of Journalism.
The core curriculum focuses on different styles of writing and Ethics. The school also requires students to spend one quarter working abroad with a foreign news organization. Newhouse School of Public Communications offers Bachelor’s degrees in three different majors for Journalists; Broadcast and Digital Journalism, Newspaper and Online Journalism, and Magazine.

Florida’s public university campus is located in the city of Gainesville. The school was established in 1853. Florida’s College of Journalism and Communication is home to the Department of Journalism. The department offers students a chance to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

Every student must complete a mandatory internship at a school-approved media outlet. There are several local, state and national outlets from which students can choose. As part of their effort to focus on cutting edge technology, Lyndon offers a very unique Bachelor of Science in Electronic Journalism Arts. The program is designed to train students on reporting and writing using many of today’s electronic media options like visual and online mediums.
Students are introduced to the real world of Journalism with hands on training at the Vermont Center for Community Journalism. The school currently is void of an accredited Master’s program. Annual Tuition: $9,696 (resident), $20,760 (non-resident)
9. University of Maryland

Maryland is a public school located in College Park. The school was established back in 1856. The Journalism Department is part of The Philip Merrill College of Journalism. They offer a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. The program requires two-thirds of the course work to be completed in Liberal Arts and the other third taking core writing and reporting classes. Students are required to work in media outlets such as the Capital News Service and the American Journalism Review.
The advanced degree offerings include a Master of Journalism (non-thesis), Master of Arts degree (thesis) and a PhD. They offer a BA in Journalism. For sports fans, they also offer the same degree with a sports reporting concentration.
The curriculum combines the Liberal Arts with news reporting, news research, writing, editing and Ethics. Students are also required to work on university publications or at university media outlets. The school also offers a Master’s and PhD program. Only 5-6 students are accepted into the Doctorate on an annual basis. Annual Tuition: $10,208 (resident), $32,350 (non-resident).
